Shawn Mendes, Noah Cyrus make TIME's list of Most Influential Teens

The list features 30 teens across different platforms who’ve had a global impact through social media and newsmaking accomplishments.

Shawn, 19, rose to fame on the now-defunct app Vine and currently has 26 million Instagram followers.  “I always want people to feel like they can do anything,” he tells TIME, “and I hope that I can inspire them.”

Noah, 17, makes the list for establishing a music career for herself outside of her sister Miley’s shadow.

“I feel like I communicate so much better through a song than I do through talking,” she tells TIME, adding that she aims to make her music relatable. “I’m there with you if you’re going through heartbreak, because I’ve definitely had my share of heartbreak.”

Khalid, 19, earned the Best New Artist award at the VMAs this year and is committed to social causes.

“America today feels like a scary place for many people, people of color, DREAMERS, women, the LGBTQ community,” Khalid tells TIME. “It’s the young people of America, the teens, who have the power to create change.”

Other young stars making the list include Sia’s music video star Maddie Ziegler, Stranger ThingsMillie Bobby Brown, and Jaden and Willow Smith.
