Mert & MarcusTaylor Swift has been so uncommunicative lately that any time she posts anything on social media, it’s news. Today, she’s reemerged with a link to a Spotify playlist of songs she’s been listening to, and people are now scouring it for clues, to anything.
The playlist, called “Songs Taylor Loves,” includes tracks by artists who are friends, acquaintances or colleagues of Taylor’s, including Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Shawn Mendes, HAIM, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon. A song by Bleachers, led by her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, also makes an appearance.
Kesha is also on the list. You’ll recall Taylor gave her a large donation to help pay for her lawsuit against producer Doctor Luke, whom Kesha has accused of sexually and verbally abusing her. He’s denied all charges.
Taylor also shows she hasn’t forgotten her country roots by including songs by top country acts Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton, Midland, Cole Swindell and Dierks [derks] Bentley.
The rest of the songs are a mix of alternative rock and cutting-edge pop, from artists like The National, Airborne Toxic Event, Arcade Fire, Halsey, Charli XCX, Lana Del Rey, Khalid, Betty Who, Liam Gallagher, Marc E. Bassy, The xx, and Banks.
Interestingly, Taylor’s included a song by Niall Horan, but nothing from Niall’s 1D bandmates Harry Styles — who’s her ex — or Zayn Malik, her duet partner. Seventeen magazine, meanwhile, concludes that Taylor and Lorde are no longer friends because there are no Lorde songs included on the Spotify list, but that’s a bit of a stretch.
It goes without saying. however, that there are no Katy Perry songs on the list. And though Taylor sent congratulatory flowers to Cardi B after she replaced her at #1, “Bodak Yellow” is nowhere to be found.
