Hailee Steinfeld says most girls really like “Most Girls”

ohn Shearer/Getty Images via ABCHailee Steinfeld started shooting her next movie, Bumblebee, at the end of July, but she kept her music career going over the summer with her empowerment anthem, “Most Girls.”  The song carries a positive message for young girls, and Hailee says they’ve really responded to it.

“The fan reaction to this song has been overwhelmingly positive,” she tells ABC Radio. “And I always feel like, when you work on a project that you are so passionate about and that really, truly means something to you, and you put it out into the world, you can only hope that it has that same sort of impact — or an impact, period.”

“And it seems as though it does,” she adds. “So I feel very lucky.”

Hailee’s previous single, a collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly called “At My Best,” also carried a strong message about being accepted for who you are.  Hailee says when possible, she tries to choose songs with positive messages and meaningful lyrics.

“It is important to me. I think not only is music an universal language, but it can make you feel and it can bring you back to a certain time,” Hailee explains.  “If it has a message and if it has something that means something to you, then it can represent a whole time in your life — and that to me is very important.”

We’ll next see Hailee on the big screen in Pitch Perfect 3 in December.  Bumblebee, a Transformers prequel, arrives in 2018.
