Ed Sheeran sings song to baby girl named after him

Greg WilliamsEd Sheeran may have just met his littlest fan.

At his concert in Miami on Wednesday, he dedicated one of his songs to a baby named after him. The one-year-old baby girl caught his attention in the crowd and her parents informed him that her name is Cooper Sheeran.

“Her middle name is Sheeran?” the singer asks, in a video posted to Instagram. He continues, “I’ve never seen a baby this calm at a concert. Just chilling there for the whole thing and you guys have been loud…”

He then says he’s going to dedicate his next song, “Dive,” to little Cooper Sheeran. The song, as he pointed out, includes the lyrics, “Don’t call me baby.”

“I want you to be as loud as you can,” Ed tells the crowd. “‘Cause she’s gonna be chill.”

Cooper’s dad, Rocky Smith, tells E! News that he played Ed’s song “Tenerife Sea” while Cooper was conceived through fertility treatments.

“I’m not sure what the future holds for Cooper, but both Mommy and Daddy sing, so maybe one day she’ll be singing songs to us on a big stage,” dad says.
