Frank OckenfelsJohn Mayer’s well known for his passion for fashion and design, but his latest project takes its inspiration from an unusual source. The singer has designed a pair of Nike sneakers that celebrate an episode of the acclaimed Adult Swim cartoon Rick and Morty.
For the uninitiated, the boundary-pushing show follows a brilliant-but-flawed scientist named Rick, who drags his awkward teen grandson Morty on adventures across space and time. It’s sort of like Back to the Future, if Doc Brown was an angry, alcoholic sociopath.
Mayer’s contribution to the Rickuverse is the Air Max 90 AIR MAYER “Pickle Rick.” The $130 kicks take their name from the third episode of the show’s third season, in which Rick turns himself into a pickle to avoid a family counseling session.
The sneakers boast bold R&M-inspired colors: dark green, neon yellow, grey, and blue, with a mid-sole speckled in pickle green.
John himself modeled the sneakers on Instagram. They’re available for order now on the NIKEiD website.
