Olaf HeineLots of people are getting married to James Arthur’s hit ballad “Say You Won’t Let Go,” but his latest single is more of a wistful take on romance.
The song, “Can I Be Him,” explores an unrequited love. The British singer, who performed the tune on Good Morning America Thursday, explains the track’s inspiration.
“I think a lot of us have those insecurities and wonder whether we can find that special somebody and maybe we’re doubting ourselves, maybe we lack confidence,” he tells ABC Radio. “And I just wanted to write something from my imagination that’s not necessarily about anybody.”
He adds, “Like everybody else, I wanna be the most special person to somebody.”
But back to all those fans who have made “Say You Won’t Let Go” their wedding song. James says it’s a “phenomenal feeling” to know his song is now a part of people’s lives forever.
“I have to pinch myself all the time when I hear these things,” he says.
James is currently opening for OneRepublic on their Honda Civic Tour.
