According to Billboard, the Emmy-nominated reality series’ most recent season managed to boost streaming numbers for the songs featured on the program big-time. In particular, streaming of Whitney Houston’s “So Emotional” was up 510 percent for the week ending June 29 — just days after season nine winner Sasha Velour lip-synced the song on the show’s June 23 finale.
Other songs enjoyed big spikes after contestants lip-synced to them on the show. Another Whitney tune, “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay,” increased 190% the week ending June 29 and Ariana Grande’s “Greedy” increased by 118% the week ending May 25.
In addition, Meghan Trainor’s “Woman Up” was up 69% in the week ending April 27 and Demi Lovato’s “Cool for the Summer” was up 22% percent in the week ending June 1.
All of those songs scored significant sales bumps as well. “Greedy” — a track from Ariana’s Dangerous Woman album — had the biggest one, with a whopping 936% jump in downloads.
RuPaul’s Drag Race was nominated for eight Emmys last week.
