Interscope RecordsOneRepublic tackles climate change in their latest song, “Truth to Power.” The message-driven tune will be featured in the documentary, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, which hits theaters July 28.
In a lyric video for the soulful song, images of people who have been affected by environmental disasters flash across the screen. That segues to clips of protests and the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference. However, the video ends with images of hope.
“Ten years later we are still talking about climate change,” frontman Ryan Tedder says in a statement, referencing the original documentary which came out in 2006. “Former Vice President Al Gore has again made a film that inspires one to get involved and do something for our planet.”
He adds, “It was an honor to create a song with legendary [producer] T Bone Burnett that speaks to the theme of this movie: that the ‘truth’ leads to ‘power’ when it comes to standing up and helping to create change.”
OneRepublic opened for U2 on select dates of The Joshua Tree tour and next week, they’ll kick off their own North American tour dates headlining the 2017 Honda Civic Tour.
