Halsey’s new album hopeless fountain kingdom has debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart, with first-week sales of 106,000. Her debut album, Badlands, debuted and peaked at #2. The song features the singer’s first top-40 hit as a lead artist, “Now or Never.” She was just a featured artist on “Closer.”
Billboard notes that Halsey is the first woman to be #1 on the album chart in 2017. The last woman to travel to the top was Lady Gaga, back in November of last year. Billboard also notes that in the last 12 months, Halsey is only the fourth solo female artist to have a #1 album, after Gaga, Barbra Streisand and Solange.
By comparison, 16 men and 10 groups have held the #1 spot in the last 12 months, along with one compilation and two soundtracks.
