John Shearer/Getty Images via ABCNow that we’re officially halfway through the year, which singles have risen to the top of the pop heap? According to Entertainment Weekly, The Best Songs of 2017 (So Far) include tracks by Lorde and Julia Michaels.
“Green Light,” the first single from Lorde’s new album Melodrama, ranks #3 on EW’s list of the top 10 best songs of the year. Noting its “wonky rhyme scheme” and “out of nowhere key change,” EW writes, “There’s a lot about ‘Green Light’ that shouldn’t work, but all those twists build up to 2017’s most explosive chorus.”
Julia Michael’s debut single “Issues,” meanwhile, ranks #6 on the list, and EW praises it as “a plucky ode to the neurotic mess love makes of the best of us.”
Number one on the list is “Slide,” by Calvin Harris featuring Frank Ocean and Migos, which EW calls “a weird, sweet union.” Other songs in the top 10: Drake‘s “Passionfruit,” and songs by Cashmere Cat, Lana Del Ray, Gorillaz, and the country group Little Big Town.
Meanwhile, the magazine says the best album of 2017’s so far is Kendrick Lamar‘s critically-acclaimed DAMN.
