Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic, IncHere’s the perfect gift for the Britney Spears fan in your life, and all you’ll need is a spare $1 million or so.
A collector in Canada is auctioning off seven full famous Britney Spears stage costumes on eBay, including the skimpy, green, bikini-top outfit Britney wore to perform “Slave 4 U” at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2001 and the football pants and cut up jersey she wore during the 2001 Super Bowl halftime performance with N’Sync and Aerosmith. The seller also is offering parts of two other costumes.
The seller, Dana Proctor, owns a swimwear store in Edmonton, Canada, where the costumes currently are on display, and she tells The Edmonton Journal she’s hoping to get $1 million for the collection. Bidding on eBay was up to $99,995 as of Wednesday night, though the reserve price had not yet been met.
“I’m into fashion, and when she had the [Slave 4 U] auction in 2003, I had the feeling it was going to be an iconic outfit,” Proctor tells the paper, explaining how she started collecting Britney stagewear. “I believe to this day that the outfit has not been topped. I think it will go down in history as the hottest music video costume.”
The auction ends Friday, so you still have time to get the financing together for your purchase.
“I threw it up just to see what would happen,” Proctor tells the paper of auctioning her collection, but admits, “It’s gonna be a hard thing to let go [of] if it does sell. I’ve grown attached to it over the years and it’s been a part of me.”
