Clean Bandit loves the “euphoric way” fans react to their biggest hit

Rita ZimmermanClean Bandit currently is out on a U.S. tour supporting their latest hit “Rockabye,” but one song they’re also playing every night is their Grammy-winning smash “Rather Be.”  Though the song has been out since 2014, Clean Bandit’s Grace Chatto says performing it “never gets old” for her.

“It’s incredible…it never gets old, just that kind of instant connection, with this music coming from us and [fans] reacting in this euphoric way,” Grace tells ABC Radio.

Clean Bandit doesn’t actually sing on any of their songs; they collaborate with different vocalists.  “Rather Be” was sung by British singer Jess Glynne, but Grace says people still assume she’s the one who sang it, since she’s the only girl in the group.

“I just explain that it’s not me,” Grace laughs, revealing how she reacts when people assume she’s the singer. “You know, we made the video with a Japanese actress lip-syncing the parts, and a lot of people still think it’s her!”

As a British act, Clean Bandit says touring the U.S. is still a strange experience for them.

“It’s so different in the different states, it is sometimes like being in a different country,” says Grace of traveling to different parts of the U.S.  Her band mate Jack Patterson adds, “You forget how huge it is.”

He notes, “I think driving ’round in a tour bus you really get a sense of the actual scale. We had a couple of 30-hour bus journeys on our last tour here…that was a bit of a shock!”

Clean Bandit performs in L.A. tonight.  Their U.S. tour wraps up May 2 in Chicago.
