Having already conquered the music world, Selena Gomez is now celebrating her entry into the TV streaming world as the executive producer of the new series 13 Reasons Why, which debuts today on Netflix.
Selena writes on Instagram, “Our show @13reasonswhy came out tonight and I couldn’t be more overwhelmed with pride and joy. After 7 years of holding onto this book, I couldn’t [have] picked a better time for this message to exist.”
13 Reasons Why is based on the 2007 novel by Jay Asher about a girl who takes her own life, but leaves 13 cassettes behind, each containing a message to a classmate describing how they supposedly contributed to her suicide.
“Jay Asher wrote a beautifully tragic, compelling story and we were lucky to have brought it to life,” she continued. ” Thank you to every single soul that put their heart into this passion project.”
As previously reported, Selena also contributed two songs to the 13 Reasons Why soundtrack: a cover of the 1982 Yaz hit “Only You,” and an acoustic version of her own “Kill ‘Em with Kindness.”
