Waking Up in Vegas: Katy Perry tours Colosseum at Caesars Palace; may be eyeing future residency

Celine Dion will wrap up her long-running Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in June. Who’ll replace her?  It could be Katy Perry, if the Las Vegas Review-Journal is to be believed.

Sources tell the paper that Katy informally toured the Colosseum over the weekend, spending about an hour checking out the balcony, dressing rooms and lower-level seating.  She was joined by Caesars Entertainment officials to discuss a possible residency.

The paper notes that after Katy performs at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 27, she has no other dates booked. The Colosseum, meanwhile, is open after a Rod Stewart show on October 5, and a two-night stand by Jerry Seinfeld in November.

While Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and Jennifer Lopez have all enjoyed successful Las Vegas runs over the last few years, the idea of a current pop superstar like Katy doing a Las Vegas residency makes more sense now that Lady Gaga has set up shop at the Park Theater at Park MGM Las Vegas.

Of course, Katy also has her American Idol commitments, recording plans and other live performances to think about, but the likes of Mariah Carey and Elton John have managed to fit their Vegas shows into any number of other engagements.

Stay tuned.
