By refusing to confirm the rumor, Adam Levine basically confirms the rumor that Maroon 5 is playing the Super Bowl

Travis SchneiderWhile most people assume that Maroon 5 is performing at the Super Bowl next year, it hasn’t been officially confirmed. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday, Ellen tried to get her pal Adam Levine to admit that he and the band have the gig — and by refusing to confirm it, Adam pretty much did confirm it.

“It’s a rumor. I can neither confirm nor deny the truth of this rumor. It’s definitely a rumor and the rumor is a rumor that everyone seems to be discussing,” Adam told Ellen after she asked him about it.

“It’s a great event and there’s gonna be a band performing, or an artist of some kind of performing at half-time,” Adam said, as the audience laughed. “Regardless of who it is.”

When asked how he thinks whoever is playing the Super Bowl must feel about the gig, Adam got a huge laugh when he said, “Whoever is lucky enough to get that gig probably is gonna crush it.”

“Whoever does it is probably equal parts nervous and excited,” he added, but noted, “This is all speculative because I don’t know who I’m talking about!”

“If it were me, I’d be nervous, it’s like a billion gajillion people,” he continued. “So if I were doing it — which I can’t confirm or deny I am — I would be excited…I just can’t wait to watch.”

Despite the unconfirmed nature of the rumor, there’s currently a petition calling for Maroon 5 to withdraw from the Super Bowl in solidarity with those athletes who’ve taken a knee rather than standing for the national anthem.  More than 43,000 people have signed it.
