Backstreet Boys had a “gut feeling” new song “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” would be a hit

ABC/Paula LoboIf you saw the Backstreet Boys perform for Good Morning America’s summer concert series Friday, it’s clear crowds are loving their latest single, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

The group says they’ve been “overwhelmed” by the fans’ positive reaction to the song, even though they had an inkling it would be a hit right from the start.

“We had a gut feeling that this was the best song we’ve had in a long time, but you never know when you put it out,” Nick Carter tells ABC Radio. “And then it just started climbing the charts…and you get those treats every now and then of those people who are just fans of the song and the music and that’s rewarding.”

As for their new album, the Boys are targeting an October release date. It’ll be their first full-length release since 2013.

“It’s our 25th anniversary, we have some heat on this song and we wanna follow it up with great music on an album,” Nick says.

He continues, “[Not] everyone buys albums anymore but people still appreciate that from certain artists and we’re one of those artists, I think. So we just want to match sure we have a body of work that is comparable to past music, but even better.”

BSB will be adding “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” to the set-list of their Larger Than Life residency, when the show returns to Las Vegas on July 25.
