Camila Cabello says Taylor Swift didn't “encourage” her to go solo: “Our friendship is…pure…and innocent”

Christopher Polk/NBC/NBC via Getty ImagesCamila Cabello is thrilled to be going on tour with her friend Taylor Swift in May, but she says that she doesn’t like it when people assume that their friendship involves Taylor advising her on her career moves.

On the latest episode of The Dan Wootton Interview, a podcast hosted by the executive editor of the British tabloid The Sun, Camila says it “annoyed” her that people thought it was Taylor who somehow was “encouraging” her to leave Fifth Harmony and go solo.

“It annoyed me…because I know that she probably got a lot of flak for that or a lot of negative criticism for that, and that annoys me because I’m protective over my friends,” she tells Wootton.  Beside, she says it’s silly for anyone to believe that’s something she could be talked into.

“Nobody could ever persuade me to do anything, like if I don’t want to do something, the whole world can be telling me and I won’t do it,” she insists. “And if I do [want to do something]…the whole world can be telling me to not do it, [but] I’ll do it.  Just ’cause I’ve always been that way.”

So if Camila and Taylor don’t talk about their careers, what do they talk about?  “Whenever we hang out, we talk about love and boys,” Camila tells Wootton. “Our friendship is very, like, innocent in that way and it’s so, like, pure, and I fiercely like to protect my friendships with people in the industry that are like that.”
