Selena Gomez says of dramatic roles: “I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon”

Image Group LA/ABCSelena Gomez is the most-followed woman on Instagram and can act as well as sing.  But she says one reason her current project is behind-the-scenes as an executive producer is because, believe it or not, she doesn’t think anyone will cast her in a good role in the near future.

Speaking to the New York Times, Selena says, “I want to be a part of projects that have value, that really matter. And it’s really hard to do that. Sometimes I feel defeated. I’ll audition for a part that I feel very passionate about, meet with people, tell them I’m willing to go places. I think they think I won’t go there.”

She admits, “To be honest, I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon for me. I think I look really young, and image-wise, it’s difficult for people to grasp.”

As a result, Selena is putting her passion into Thirteen Reasons Why, a new Netflix series based on the popular young adult novel of the same name.  She’s an executive producer on the series, which debuts March 31.

“Early on, my mom taught me that sometimes you just have to create those projects for yourself,” says Selena. “That’s what I want this to be: a launching pad.”
